Romans 8:28 "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose."

Truly, we have come this far by faith and we know that the Grace of God will lead us through the years to come.

Gospel Light Baptist Church, a church that is reaching dying people in a dying world with the Living Word of the Living God, came together on Friday April 18, 1997 as a prayer group in Farrie's Restaurant in the Town Center Mall with 19 Blood washed, Bible Believing Christians in attendance.

It was the leading of the Holy Sprit that confirmed the vision of the persons present to build a work for the Lord Jesus Christ. On Sunday April 20, 1997, another meeting was held in the same location with additional members who decided on the name Gospel Light Baptist to be the title of our new work.

On Sunday April 27, Gospel Light Baptist Church held its first Worship Service in Farrie's Restaurant at which time Br. Francis Lahai Kerkulah delivered the message from Nehemiah's example with the four C's: Concern, Courage, Compassion and Commitment. Another Evening service was held on Sunday May 4, 1997, with a growing population of Christians in the same facility.

During the second meeting, the attending members elected seven Council Board to head and govern the affairs of the new work including: Michael Cunningham (Chairman), Albert Simmons (Vice-Chairman), PhilipHanna (Treasurer), James Pinder, Wilton Johnson, Sidney Mackey and Mark Demeritte.

To accommodate the growing population, it became necessary to move the church to a larger facility. On Mother's Day, Sunday May 11, 1997, the church was re-located to the Independence shopping Center at which time Br. Edwin Johnson delivered the Sunday morning message and Br. Francis Lahai Kerkulah delivered the evening message.

On Sunday October 5, 1997, a dedication service was held on behalf of the church and Br. Norris Bain from Tabernacle Baptist Church, Freeport, Grand Bahama officiated the service with a total of 351 persons in attendance.

The Lord has certainly blessed the ministry in that a number of persons have accepted the Lord as their Savior while Christians have made serious commitments to live and work in spreading the Gospel Light, which is how the name Gospel Light Baptist Church came about.

As a result of the rapid attendance growth, we acquired two sixty seater buses in December 1997, to assist with the growth of the Sunday school ministry which was held in the A.F. Adderley auditorium.

Like the early church in the book of Acts, during the early stages of the church development, we had difficult times, but by putting God first, we were able to weather the storms.

Today, we can truly say in faith, that the same grace of God that brought us together and with the power and directions of the Lord Jesus Christ upon whom this church is built, we will endeavor continually to reach new heights for Christ.
